For Great Eats, Check Out Vinnie Vanucchi’s

This Is Nate

I recently spent a weekend with my hubby in Galena and we finally had the chance to have dinner at Vinnie Vanucchi’s. We hadn’t made reservations and due to a private party were initially told we couldn’t get seated for at least an hour and a half. Well, I was really hungry and the taste buds were only speaking Italian on this particular evening, so we asked if we could hang out at the bar and still order from their tantalizing menu. “Of course” we were told, so off we went to the bar area where we sat and met our bartender turned server Nate Cook. Nate was awesome! Typically when you dine out, your server brings you your food and drink and then leaves you to it. Because we were dining at the bar, Nate was with us throughout the evening. What a sweetie Nate turned out to be. Chatting with Nate, combined with the one-on-one service, the spectacular Italian cuisine and the ambiance of Vinnie’s made this dining experience worth posting about. When in Galena, I highly recommend Vinnie Vanucchi’s for fantastic food, spectacular service, and amazing ambience.

Dowling House Gent

Illinois’ oldest stone structure, Dowling House, is located in Galena. Built in 1826 it was once a trading post for miners. It is filled with primitive furniture, artifacts, antiques and some of Galena’s own pottery. There are 30 minute tours daily from 11:00 – 4:00. Cost is $9.00.

This building is so old it doesn’t have a website, so if you want more info, call 815-777-1250 or just stop in for a tour.

Annie Wiggin’s Guest House is a Really Cool Place To Stay

Here I am at Annie Wiggin’s Guest House. I’ve been staying in Hattie’s Room, which is amazing. At the moment I am sitting in a beautiful, authentic 1800’s Victorian parlor surrounded by beautiful antiques and furnishings reflective of an era long past, clunking away on my 21st century laptop (what’s wrong with this picture?).

When you stay at Annie Wiggins’ you’ll enjoy Queen beds with very comfy Egyptian Cotton linens, huge candle-lit soaking tubs for two, beautiful parlors, cozy porches and of course, scrumptious breakfasts. I am absolutely loving this B&B. The famous Belvedere Mansion is next door, Grant park is across the street and Galena’s Main Street, just a couple of blocks away is easily within walking distance.

Looking for a place to stay in Galena? I would highly recommend Annie Wiggins Guest House. You can find them at 1004 Park Ave. Check out their website.
